STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC’s USL W League team has announced the four nominees for the July Tormenta FC Player of the Month award, and the community will help decide the winner.
Forward Amy Andrews, goalkeeper Sydney Martinez, midfielder Jaida Nyby and defender Jhenesis Ellerbe are all up for the award after a Championship winning month of July. All four players were an influential part of the team’s success.
Voting for the Tormenta FC Player of the Month (USL League One) award will run through Sunday August 7 at 11:59 p.m. ET, with daily voting. The winner will be determined via a weighted vote from the following three voting bodies:
- A fan vote (poll below) will comprise 60 percent of the poll.
- The Tormenta FC staff ballots will comprise 20 percent of the poll.
- Media ballots comprise 20 percent of the poll.
Voting results will be announced on Monday August 8.
Player of the Month Nominees:
Sydney Martinez, Goalkeeper: As team captain, Martinez led Tormenta FC to a National Championship win where Martinez saved a penalty kick in the 110th minute of extra time. The save was followed by a goal that won it all, helping Tormenta FC win its first title in club history. Martinez also kept three clean sheets in July.
Jhenesis Ellerbe, Defender: Ellerbe’s low profile this summer helped her play her game under no spotlight; The defensive unit only allowed two goals in July. Ellerbe’s speed and precise reading for the game distinguish her from opponents.
Jaida Nyby, Midfielder: Nyby leaves South Georgia its first title in club history following a historic brace in the USL W League final. Nyby’s July saw her grow into a creative midfielder, creating chances for the offensive unit.
Amy Andrews, Forward: Andrews’s time at Tormenta FC will never be forgotten. She has established herself as one of the best players to have worn the navy and magenta. Andrews’ three goals in the playoffs and two braces at the end of the regular season saw her tally nineteen goals. Also, Andrews was awarded the Golden Boot and Player of the year.
