STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC announces its intention to play its first game from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium on Oct. 1, 2022, now that phase one is near completion of the state-of-the art development. In order to ensure the best fan experience at Tormenta Stadium’s inaugural USL League One game against the Richmond Kickers, the club will limit the capacity of the venue. The club encourages fans to purchase tickets in advance of the event.
As stadium development progresses into phase two, fans and followers of the club can expect the state-of-the-art facility in Statesboro to feature luxury suites, a multi-functional gym for players, a restaurant and craft brewery sourced by the local Eagle Creek Brewery, and a team merchandise store. In addition to League One matches, the Optim Sports Medicine Field will host W League matches for Tormenta FC, League Two matches for Tormenta FC 2, USL Academy matches, and both the Georgia Southern University Men’s and Women’s NCAA Division I soccer teams.
Tormenta FC will also play the final home match of the regular season against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC on Oct. 15 at Tormenta Stadium. Additionally, Tormenta FC would be able to play any home playoff games at Tormenta Stadium.
The opening of Tormenta Stadium is a watershed moment for the City of Statesboro and South Georgia. Tormenta Stadium will create jobs and economic activity and spur more business and growth in Statesboro and across the region. Tormenta Stadium will also serve as a concert venue and can host other outdoor events. The club has made strides toward growing the game of soccer locally and making Statesboro the entertainment destination in South Georgia and the Lowcountry of South Carolina.
Tormenta FC is determined to build on the success of other soccer-specific venues across the United Soccer League to create the best possible fan experience at Tormenta Stadium. Last Saturday, Louisville City FC of the USL Championship announced a sold-out Lynn Family Stadium and set a club-record crowd of 14,673 in attendance. Louisville City boasts a top-quality team, world-class facilities, and a proud and loyal fanbase. Similarly, Tormenta FC aspires to have similar standards in order to create memorable experiences for everyone in the region.
The ever-growing passion for soccer in the United States has seen many expansion teams across the USL Championship and League One invest in its community. With the move into its new venue, Tormenta FC will join USL clubs such as Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, Louisville City FC, Monterey Bay FC and Chattanooga Red Wolves SC, whose new soccer-specific homes have recently opened across the country. There are currently eleven stadium projects approved or in development across the USL.
As Tormenta FC continues a historic 2022 and transitions from Erk Russell Park to its new stadium, Tormenta Nation can ensure its presence at the new stadium by purchasing season memberships and Flex Ticket packages in advance.
