STATESBORO, Ga. – USL League One announced on Wednesday that South Georgia Tormenta FC midfielder Adrian Billhardt is the 2022 League One Comeback Player of the Year after recovering from a season-ending injury in 2021.
“It is not about what happens to you but how you react to it. I had to deal with a life-changing injury last season, and I knew I would have to have a positive mindset, and the injury would make me a stronger person. This year, I was so excited to get back on the pitch. I knew we had a great team and an amazing coaching staff. As a group, we have great chemistry. The team gets along and wants to win championships.”
Tormenta FC Midfielder Adrian Billhardt
“Throughout his career, Adrian has always displayed amazing professionalism regarding preparing his body to be an elite athlete, so when the injury happened, we all knew his physical recovery would be a challenge he’d overcome. Billhardt remained present throughout, he made others around him better, and he, too, grew as a person in this hard window of time. Out of that recovery came a guy with the same ability, the same physical properties, but an enhanced mindset. It’s been a privilege to observe.”
Tormenta FC Head Coach Ian Cameron
In 2022, Billhardt proved to be a core piece in Cameron’s team after featuring in all 32 games of the League One regular season and League One Playoffs. With 2,189 minutes played throughout the entire season, Billhardt contributed to the team’s success by creating chances for the offensive unit. Billhardt led the team in assists with five and is tied all-time in club assists in second alongside Conner Antley. Billhardt also led the team in chances created with 52.
A Tormenta FC 2 alum, Billhardt has over fifty games played for Tormenta FC across all competitions and will compete this Sunday night in Tormenta FC’s first-ever USL League One Final, which will be played in Statesboro, Georgia, on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. ET from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Torment Stadium.
