STATESBORO, GA. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has been awarded a Key to the City of Statesboro, Georgia, in recognition of its outstanding achievements and contributions to the local community. The team’s hard work, dedication and success have earned them the highest honor the city can bestow upon the professional sports organization.
Tormenta FC won its first-ever USL W League title in 2022 after defeating the Minnesota Aurora 2-1 in the W League Final in front of 6,500 fans in Eagan, Minnesota. Through the W League, Tormenta FC provides an opportunity for local and national players to develop and start their professional careers in Statesboro, Georgia. Sydney Martinez — a Rincon, Georgia, native — won the W League Golden Glove and was named MVP of the W League Final.
Tormenta FC’s professional USL League One team played its first game from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium on Oct. 1, 2022, against the Richmond Kickers, in front of thousands of fans. The opening of Tormenta Stadium was a watershed moment for the City of Statesboro and South Georgia. Tormenta Stadium will create jobs and economic activity and spur more business growth across the region.
Tormenta FC’s League One playoff push marked the return of professional sports playoff action to Statesboro after 69 years. The last playoff series was hosted by the Statesboro Pilots.
In November 2022, Tormenta FC conquered its first-ever League One title after defeating Chattanooga Red Wolves SC 2-1 in Statesboro, Georgia, in front of more than 3,000 fans. With this, Tormenta FC won the first-ever professional sports title in Statesboro.

Tormenta FC has brought national attention to Statesboro, showcasing its rich culture and vibrant sports scene.
