STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC midfielder Mukwelle Akale was voted the South Georgia Tormenta FC Player of the Month (USL League One) for March. Akale featured in two consecutive League One Team of the Weeks and was instrumental to Tormenta FC’s first road win of the season. Akale featured as the top goal scorer in League One in March.
The winner was determined via a weighted average from the following three voting bodies:
- A fan vote comprised 60 percent of the poll.
- The Tormenta FC staff ballots comprised 20 percent of the poll.
- Media ballots comprised 20 percent of the poll.
Akale earned 74.23% of the total vote, with defender Davey Mason coming in second with 19.99%. Midfielder Tobias Otieno and defender Jake Dengler followed at 3.07% and 2.69%, respectively.

In March, Akale led League One in goals scored, with his goals coming in two consecutive games. The pacey and agile winger has become a threat to every League One defensive line. Akale’s free kick goal against the Charlotte Independence was featured in March 26’s edition of SportsCenter’s Top Ten, coming in at number 10.
South Georgia is poised to make a strong push for the championship title in the upcoming season. Fans can secure their seats at the new Tormenta Stadium ahead of 2023, with Season Tickets now available for purchase.
Following Saturday’s match, Tormenta FC is set to go on the road after several home games to take on Lexington SC for the first time in club history next Saturday, April 15, at 7 p.m. ET from Toyota Stadium in Lexington, Kentucky.
