STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC travels to Lexington, Kentucky, to take on Lexington SC for the first time in club history this Saturday, April 15, at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Tormenta FC will look for its second road win of the season after beating North Carolina FC in match week one of the 2023 regular season. Lexington will be looking for its first victory in club history after losing twice and drawing once.
Tormenta FC starts its two-week road trip following a thrilling 2-0 Peach States Derby win against Greenville Triumph SC last Saturday from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium. South Georgia’s versatility and high-pressing secured last Saturday’s victory, and the team will look to once again use its high pressing work rate to get a positive result in Lexington on Saturday.
Although injuries have plagued South Georgia throughout the start of the 2023 season, the team has been able to secure valuable victories in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and a victory on the road and at home. Tormenta FC will now face a similar scenario this weekend as Lexington plays its second game ever at home after playing its first-ever home match last Saturday against Forward Madison.
In its inaugural season, Lexington was unable to win its first game after being defeated twice across all competitions and drawing in its first-ever home game. Lexington currently sits 11th in the league standings with no wins, a draw and two losses. Tormenta FC 2 and Tormenta FC alum Owen Green takes on its former team this Saturday after now featuring for Lexington. Green was a member of the historic 2022 USL League One roster that obtained Tormenta FC’s first USL League One title in club history.
Following Saturday’s match, Tormenta FC will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee to take on One Knoxville SC next Friday April 21 at 7 p.m. ET. The following Tuesday, Tormenta FC will go on the road for its third consecutive road game to take on Major League Soccer’s Charlotte FC in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup.
