STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC announced the addition of defender Róisín McGovern to its 2023 USL W League title-defending roster, pending league and federation approval. The Ireland native joins Tormenta FC after captaining Temple University in 2022. In 2019, McGovern captained Ireland’s U19 team in the UEFA Women’s Championship qualifiers and led them to advance to the Elite phase of the championship.
“Róisín is a very composed and confident center back, who can build the game from the back, make all the passes and lead the group. She is great in the air but can win the tackles as well. She is always dangerous on attacking restarts and will be a key player for us on our set pieces. Her experience as captain of the Irish U19 youth national team will be invaluable as we build our back line to be one of the most difficult to break down in all of the USL W League.”
Jim Robbins, Tormenta FC USL W League Head Coach
