STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC’s title-defending season is here, and the coaching staff guided by Head Coach Jim Robbins is getting to work. After winning the organization’s first-ever USL W League title in 2022, the club maintained the talented and experienced group of coaches together, while adding a new member to the coaching staff to solidify the group. The coaching staff is looking to continue Tormenta FC’s winning tradition and take the team to new heights in 2023.
Leading the charge will be Head Coach and Tormenta FC Academy’s Girls Director Jim Robbins. Robbins comes into 2023 with winning experience and now looks to lead a new team with a strong group of four returners to another W League title in 2023. Robbins has 11 years of experience in women’s soccer across the country, serving as the Head Coach at Long Island University Brooklyn, LaGrange College and Oxford College of Emory University, as well as an assistant coach at North Dakota State University. Robbins also serves as Tormenta FC Academy’s Girls Director, where he identifies the upcoming talent around the 912 and Lowcountry of South Carolina.
Joining Robbins is assistant coach Jason Bouchea. With a coaching career spanning 14 years, Bouchea served as an assistant coach last season for Tormenta FC’s W League team, helping South Georgia secure its first-ever title in 2022. Bouchea currently holds United States Soccer Federation “C” license and is a “B” candidate status, showcasing his dedication to continuous growth and improvement.
Rounding out the coaching staff is goalkeeper coach Sam Jones. Jones serves as the goalkeeper coach for Tormenta FC’s W League and USL Academy teams, as well as being a part of the USL League One practice squad. The Tormenta FC Academy alum is looking to help the next generation of talent succeed on the field while practicing with the professional team daily. Jones has featured with Tormenta FC 2 and is a Winthrop University alum.
Despite not officially being part of the coaching staff, team administrator Colt Carver is a usual participant in Tormenta FC’s daily practices. Carver acts as the point of contact for everything soccer operations for the W League team and is on the road with the team for every game. Carver previously worked at both Georgia Southern University and Brewton Parker College. He is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in sports management and is known to be an extreme lover of pasta.
Tormenta FC fans can secure their seats at the new Tormenta Stadium ahead of the start of the 2023 season, with tickets now available for purchase. The W League team is set to kick off its first game of the season at home on May 19 at 7:30 p.m. ET from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium against Birmingham Legion FC.
In June of 2021, Tormenta FC was named a founding member of the USL W League, an elite pre-professional pathway for women looking to build their careers both on and off the pitch. Tormenta FC won its first-ever USL W League title in 2022 after defeating the Minnesota Aurora in front of 6,500 fans in Eagan, Minnesota.
Tormenta FC provides opportunities to local and national players to develop and start their professional careers in Statesboro, Georgia. In just one year, Tormenta FC’s USL W League team has produced six professional players with Sydney Martinez joining Jenae Packard, Emily Burke, Kelly Giddes, Abigail Wolf and Jodi Medina as the latest player to sign a contract in Europe.
