STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC obtained its first draw of the season after tonight’s 1-1 draw with defender Nick Akoto scoring his first professional goal nearing the end of the first half. South Georgia was able to once again have a great team showing with the offensive side being able to show great creativity and discipline throughout the entirety of the 90 minutes played. Kazaiah Sterling returned to the starting lineup for the first time this season following several ongoing injuries throughout the preseason.
Two strong opportunities occurred for South Georgia in less than 10 minutes early in the first half. The connection between Bosua and Sterling, although young, exploited the opponent’s defensive unit. Two crosses into the penalty box saw Bosua and Sterling get two shots with both going a bit wide after strong possession plays.
South Georgia’s Akoto scored his first professional goal in the dying minutes of the first half. A through ball pass from midfielder Tobias Otieno saw him beat the Kickers defender on speed, leaving him one-v-one against the goalkeeper. The first-year professional beat the experienced Richmond goalkeeper easily after placing the ball to the bottom right corner of the net.
Despite opening the second half in strong fashion, the visiting team was able to get the equalizer through a direct corner kick.
The home side finished the game outshooting the Richmond side 15-7.
Richmond finished the game with 10 men after a 82nd-minute red card was shown to Zaca Moran.
