HARVEST, Ala. – South Georgia Tormenta FC outclassed North Alabama SC 7-0 on Thursday night at Sparkman High School Stadium in Harvest, Alabama. The win is tied for the second-largest margin of victory in the team’s history. Further, the seven-goal margin is the second-largest margin of victory in a shutout.
“It’s great to see us get off to such a quick start. We talked in the pregame that we needed to be a little more decisive in the final third, and I think we saw that in those first two goals in the first couple minutes. And we wanted to keep that same theme throughout the 90 minutes. It was really good to see us go at them and creating the chances we created. I’m happy that we got those seven goals from a few different players.”
Jim Robbins, Head Coach
Tormenta FC wasted no time in the first five minutes of the match to take the lead. Alaysia Lane picked up possession inside the North Alabama penalty box and sprayed a shot on net. Elis Nemtsov picked up on the rebound from the goalkeeper to give the Statesboro side the lead. Nemtsov’s strike is the fastest goal in South Georgia Tormenta FC history. Minutes later, Tess Werts followed another saved shot from Lane to tack on a second goal for South Georgia.
Tormenta FC remained dominant in possession throughout the first half, employing silky passing moves and advanced forward play to keep the Alabama side on their heels. In the 40th minute of play, Kiana Jacobson intercepted a pass inside the North Alabama half, took a touch beyond her defender and fired a shot into the upper-right corner of the goal. Just before the halftime break, Jacobson connected with a cross from the left flank to extend the first half lead. Tormenta FC went into the halftime break up 4-0.
Jacobson completed her seven-minute hat trick, the fastest in team history, in the 48th minute after pouncing on a loose ball that was crossed in by Lane. Substitute Taylor Golden entered the field in the second half and quickly tallied her first two goals of the season. In the 65th minute, Golden picked up possession on the edge of the North Alabama penalty area and unleashed a shot into the upper-right corner. Less than a minute later, Golden again recovered possession in the home side’s half, found a pocket of space, and once again picked out the upper-right corner to secure her second-half brace. Tormenta FC made a flurry of changes to freshen the squad in the closing minutes and saw out the match to earn all three points.
“My first goal was just be thinking about my team telling me [to press in the final third]. I got a press, and I was up there. My second goal was like my last one, where I just made sure to be in the 18 for anything that might happen, like a rebound, which happened. And that third goal, I was just hungry for another one.”
Kiana Jacobson, Midfielder
