STATESBORO, Ga. — Tormenta FC Academy announces Sam Jones as the club’s new Director of Goalkeeping. Jones will be in charge of training the club’s goalkeepers for the U12-U19 Boys, as well as assisting the goalkeepers for the U12-U19 Girls.

So far, the goalkeepers have been excellent as we are implementing new ideas and standards into training so that Tormenta FC Academy goalkeepers are ready to play at the college level and beyond.”

Jones was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia. A Tormenta FC Academy alum, he graduated from Benedictine Military School in 2019 before playing collegiately for Winthrop University and in USL League Two for Tormenta FC 2 and New Jersey Copa FC. He worked as a goalkeeper coach with the Charlotte Independence for two years before becoming an assistant coach for Tormenta FC’s USL W League team and USL Academy team in 2023.

In 2019, midfielder Tristan DeLoach became the first TFC Academy talent to sign a USL Academy contract with the professional USL League One team, followed by his peers midfielder Grant Hampton and goalkeeper Stephen O’Hearn in 2020, defender Brittain Gottlieb and forward Tyler Bisseck in 2021 and Aidan Miller, Renzo Andreucetti and Esteban Quintero in 2023. On the women’s side, TFC Academy products, such as Sydney Martinez, Isabella and Helen Gutierrez, Lauren and Erin O’Hearn, and Elise Holcey, have made an impact for Tormenta FC’s pre-professional USL W League team, winning the league title in 2022.
