STATESBORO, Ga. — Midfielders Mukwelle Akale and Pedro Fonseca and defender Nick Akoto have been named to the USL League One Team of the Week for Week 27 of the 2023 regular season. All three talents played a vital role in Tormenta FC’s incredible 3-2 comeback victory against North Carolina FC on Saturday, Sept. 16, from WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina.
Akale scored the opening goal – his 10th of the season – in South Georgia’s massive victory over table-topping North Carolina. The Villarreal youth product registered four recoveries, four duels won and three chances created across 64 minutes of play.
Akoto helped South Georgia with his 10 duels won, four clearances, three recoveries, two tackles won and two chances created as he nears the completion of his first professional season.
Fonseca connected with Akale to assist his side’s first goal of the match against NCFC. The first-year Ibis and second-year professional added six duels won, four chances created, two tackles won and two recoveries to his side’s victory.
Following an exceptional outing against North Carolina FC, Akale, Akoto, Fonseca and Tormenta FC now turn their attention to an important match against One Knoxville SC at 7:30 p.m. ET from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 23 (ESPN+).
