STATESBORO, Ga – (January 11, 2024) South Georgia Tormenta FC is excited to announce a one-year deal with goalkeeper Ford Parker, pending league and federation approval. The 27-year-old shot stopper joins the club as a free agent, having last played for New Mexico United in the USL Championship.
Before joining Tormenta FC, Parker played for New Mexico United from 2022-2023 where he made 14 saves, had one clean sheet and six goals conceded.
The New Mexico native spent two seasons playing under Birmingham Legion FC during 2020-2021 prior to joining New Mexico United. There he made nine saves and had a total of three goals conceded.
During the 2019 season, Parker played collegiately at University of California, Irvine, which is an NCAA Division I team. Here, Parker started 18 out of the 18 matches he featured in, while accruing a total of 1,723 minutes over the course of the 2019 season. During this season he made 46 saves while conceding 21 goals.
Ford Parker’s NCAA Division I experience started from the 2015-2019 seasons with the University of New Mexico. Parker played in 18 matches in his time there, successfully making 64 saves.
“I’m very excited for the opportunity to join and represent such a highly regarded club for the upcoming season,” said Parker. “It means a lot to join a winning culture both on and off of the field, and I hope I can be an asset in the clubs growth this season. I’m excited to get on the field and start getting to work, but also moving to a new place and experiencing a new culture.”
Head coach Ian Cameron spoke about his newest goalkeeper saying, “Ford has been a competitive USL Championship goalkeeper, and built trust with teammates and coaches alike in the organizations he has been part of. He’s now eager and ready to win a starting spot and build a portfolio of accomplishments on the field. We enter a new era between the sticks here at Tormenta, and we look forward to watching Ford grow and contend to make us a formidable team to score against, and a challenging team to press. Ford is up for that challenge and we’re excited to get him in the door.”
