STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has announced a preseason schedule of five friendlies as the USL League One side prepares for the 2024 season. Tormenta FC’s preseason schedule sees it take on two NCAA Division I programs in Mercer University and Jacksonville University. In addition, South Georgia will play two preseason matches in the Huntsville City FC Blastoff Battle against MLS Next Pro side, Chattanooga FC and USL Championship side, FC Tulsa. Our final preseason match will be against USL Championship side, Charleston Battery, on March 2.
The League One squad will begin training at Tormenta FC Training Ground on Thursday, Feb. 1, in preparation for its upcoming friendlies and regular-season opener hosting Central Valley Fuego on March 9.
For Tormenta FC, only six players are returning from the 2023 season and just one member of the 2022 championship winning side remains. Therefore, it will be critical to hit the ground running and build tactical cohesion amongst the squad.
Tormenta FC opens up its preseason against Mercer University at Tormenta Stadium on Friday, Feb. 9, at 7:00 p.m. ET. Tormenta FC Academy Alumni, Grant Hampton plays for Mercer and scored the winning penalty in the SoCon conference semifinals sending the Bears into the conference finals.
Seven days later, Tormenta FC will continue its preseason in the Huntsville City FC Blastoff Battle opening the weekend against Chattanooga FC on Feb. 16 at 5:00 p.m. ET and finishing up the weekend against FC Tulsa on Feb. 18 at 12:00 p.m. ET.
South Georgia then takes on its second college program of preseason playing Jacksonville University on Feb. 24 at 2:00 p.m. ET. This fixture will be a homecoming for midfielder Mason Tunbridge who played for the Dolphins during his freshman and sophomore year.
Tormenta FC’s final pre-season friendly will be on March 2 at 7:00 p.m. ET against the Charleston Battery. Charleston are visiting Tormenta FC as USL Championship finalists, losing to Phoenix Rising FC on penalties. Charleston also open their season on March 9 hosting USL League One Champions and the newest USL Championship side, North Carolina FC.
All home preseason games at Tormenta Stadium will be open to the public, with general admission tickets starting at $5 for student/youth tickets (18 and under; a valid student ID) and $10 for adults. Preseason games are included in Tormenta FC VIP Season Ticket packages and for Season Ticket Packages purchased prior to Feb. 1, so make sure to purchase your tickets through the link below to watch.
