Statesboro, Ga – April 4, 2024 – South Georgia is pleased to announce the signing of defender Farah El Tayar. El Tayar will play for the club this summer after playing three years at Florida International University.
Over her three collegiate years with the Panthers, El Tayar logged 1,566 minutes, recording one assist and netting one goal. The defender also earned the honor of being named captain for the 2023 season, eventually leading her team to its first conference tournament since 2013.
“I am extremely excited and blessed with the opportunity to join Tormenta this summer. I think the professional atmosphere and care poured into all the preparation and planning puts us as players in the best position to train and play our best. Can’t wait to meet everyone, to be part of the Tormenta community, and get to work together.” El Tayar exclaimed.
El Tayar has experience on the international stage as well, representing the Lebanon National Team on four occasions and scoring once for the senior team. She scored an impressive five goals with the Lebanon U-19 national team and provided two assists while helping the team win the 2020 West Asia Championship.
“Farah is a fit, dynamic, attacking back who is comfortable playing on either side. She can run the width and provide quality wide service, and she can tuck in and play in the midfield during the buildup as needed. Farah is confident on the ball and makes good decisions in possession. She is also a solid defender who is tough to beat 1v1. She is what an attacking back looks like in the modern game.” Head Coach Jim Robbins explained.
