STATESBORO, Ga. – May 9, 2024 – South Georgia Tormenta FC is thrilled to announce the signing of defensive midfielder Melanie Mikoy, pending league and federation approval.
“I’m excited to be joining Tormenta this summer and train in a professional environment. I’ve played against them in the past and it was always a competitive game,” Mikoy said. “I think we’ll all have a great opportunity to improve our game, compete day in and day out, and hopefully bring home the league title again.”
After signing her first professional contract, Mikoy spent the 2023 season with FC Pinzgau. She joined the Austrian club after finishing her collegiate career at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB).
At UCSB, Mikoy started 18 out of 20 matches for the Gauchos and picked up one assist. Mikoy’s lone assist for the season came in the 76th minute against Long Beach State as she found her teammate Clair Grouwinkel, who scored the game-winning goal.
Mikoy played collegiate soccer at The Citadel from 2018 to 2021, starting 72 out of 73 matches for the Bulldogs. The defender provided seven assists during her 6,482 minutes at The Citadel and netted three goals. During her career at The Citadel, Mikoy served as the team captain for two seasons.
Mikoy played for Peachtree City MOBA during the summer from 2018 to 2022. She exemplified her leadership qualities for Peachtree City, being named the captain during three of her seasons with the club.
“Melanie is another player who brings a wealth of high-level experience to our team this summer,” Head Coach Jim Robbins said. “She has a very high soccer IQ, and her versatility will help solidify our midfield. Her leadership qualities are unmatched, and she is very coachable. She also provides the calming presence needed when the game gets difficult. She is the consummate professional that every team needs to help achieve their goals.”
