Soumare and Agyemang score team’s first goals of the season
South Georgia Tormenta FC’s 2025 USL W League campaign kicked off Saturday night with a 2-1 road win against North Carolina Fusion. French forward Mady Soumare opened up the scoring for the night, followed by a second goal by Ghanian forward Constance Agyemang.
Tonight’s match was an exciting one for Tormenta, with the team claiming the first three points of the season. The first step towards this victory was Mady Soumare. A corner in the 16th minute led to unexpected chaos in NC Fusion’s box. Eventually, the ball landed at Soumare’s feet, who took advantage of the moment, scoring Tormenta’s first goal of the season on her club debut.
However, the first half action did not stop there as, in the 33rd minute, the Ibis secured another corner. Similar to the first, the ball bounced around in the box until Constance Agyemang took control and shot it straight into the top of the net, extending the team’s lead. Before the end of the half, the team showed moments of excellent passing play and ball retention, both of which almost led to Soumare scoring another.
A great display of resilience by defender Jhenesis Ellerbe prevented a North Carolina forward from scoring early in the second half. However, the home team eventually broke through, scoring a goal in the 64th minute. Ultimately, it was not enough, with Tormenta continuing to fight back and ultimately claiming the win for South Georgia.
