South Georgia Tormenta FC faced off against reigning USL W League champions NC Courage U23 on Friday night in Cary. In their third road match in just seven days, Tormenta FC fell 3-1 in the clash between two former league champions. Despite the loss, the team’s first of the 2025 campaign, forward Constance Agyemang continued her scoring streak, netting her third goal in as many matches.
The Courage struck early, breaking through in the 4th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Tormenta responded in the 17th minute with a moment of brilliance from Agyemang. Winning a challenge, the forward sped past the North Carolina defense and coolly slotted the equalizer from the right side of the box.
However, the hosts answered two minutes later with a second goal to retake the lead. Tormenta didn’t give up and nearly pulled level again with a pair of close calls for the Courage. Defender Emma Tucker nearly scored directly from a corner, followed moments later by a long-range effort from Agyemang that forced a fingertip save from the NC keeper.
Despite applying pressure, South Georgia couldn’t find a second goal, and NC Courage extended their lead late in the first half with a third and final strike in the 48th minute. The rest of the match remained competitive, but no further goals were scored.
The USL W League squad now shifts focus to its home opener on Wednesday, May 28, as they face NC Fusion U23 for the second time. The match will kick off at 7:30 p.m. from Tormenta Stadium with tickets available here.
