The Ibis take flight for their next USL League One fixture on Saturday, June 14, as South Georgia Tormenta FC travels to Historic Bearcat Stadium in Sherman, Texas, to face USL newcomers Texoma FC at 8:30 p.m. ET.
Texoma FC enters the contest with three wins, one draw, and one loss in their last five matches. The Ibis have dropped four of their last five but have been hard at work this week in training, focused on turning things around. Saturday’s matchup against Texoma could be the breakthrough that Tormenta has been looking for.
“I think it’s a good challenge for us,” Tormenta FC midfielder Aaron Walker commented on the upcoming road test. “I think we tend to rise up a little bit on the road. You saw that last week in Tampa. It’s just the kind of mentality – you band together, away from home. It feels like we might need that push right now to be on the road and see what we’re about.”
As the team looks to regroup on the road, Head Coach Ian Cameron recently expressed confidence in defender Gabriel Alves, highlighting the Brazilian’s continued growth and potential to create. “We see Gabriel Alves as someone who is now benefiting from a confused run of games. We feel he has more assists in him. Maybe a goal or two as well,” says Cameron. “He was good at the start of the year, but we’re now seeing him push through that ceiling a bit and find a level more befitting of his abilities.”
Nearly halfway through the season, Tormenta adds depth to its backline with the arrival of new centerback Makel Rasheed. The 6’4″ defender joined the team on its trip to Texas and could make an appearance against Texoma. The added depth to the squad, coupled with the talent already within the team, could make a difference as South Georgia looks for three points in Saturday’s fixture.
After another road trip to One Knoxeville on Saturday, June 21, the team returns home to host FC Naples on Wednesday, June 25, for Western Wear Night. South Georgia then welcomes USL Championship’s Charleston Battery to Tormenta Stadium on Saturday, June 28, for Jägermeister Cup action.
