South Georgia Tormenta FC returns home after a three-match away stretch to take on Greenville Triumph SC for the first Peach States Derby of the season. Additionally, the club hosts the Back to School Bash to celebrate the start of the new school year at Tormenta Stadium on Saturday, August 2, at 7:30 p.m.
Tormenta FC returns home after the conclusion of a three-game road trip, during which they faced off against Union Omaha, Forward Madison FC, and Miami FC. Bringing home two wins and one loss, the Ibis carries its goalscoring momentum into the match against Greenville Triumph.
Notably, forward Yaniv Bazini scored a brace in the Omaha game, bringing his professional goal tally to four. Defender Callum Stretch made his 50th appearance for the Ibis and in his overall professional career against Forward Madison. Midfielder Mason Tunbridge and defender Conor Doyle got their names on the scoresheet in Miami, with Doyle marking off his first goal of the season. Additionally, Mason Tunbridge and Head Coach Ian Cameron earned spots on the Team of the Week for their efforts in Miami.
Greenville Triumph is coming into the next match following two wins over Richmond Kickers and FC Naples at their home stadium. Forward Leonardo Castro looks to be the biggest asset for Greenville, with the Colombian striker tied for second on total USL League One goals at this point in the season. However, the Tormenta backline has proven to be more than capable of handling the visitors’ attack in recent fixtures.
This next match marks the first Peach States Derby of the season, putting silverware on the line for the Ibis. The trophy is based solely on points gained during the regular season, with playoff matches, Open Cup matches, and exhibition matches being excluded from the awarding of the title. If both teams are tied in points at the end of the season, the first tie breaker will be total goals scored in the series, and the second tie breaker will be away goals scored. With both teams aiming to clinch a spot in the playoffs, the action on the pitch looks to be at a high on Saturday night.
This is the second encounter between both teams this season, with Tormenta taking the win at home in Jägermeister Cup action earlier this year. A win on Saturday would put Tormenta ahead of Greenville Triumph on overall wins in all competitions, with both clubs having claimed 10 wins each and three instances of a draw. The next match marks the 24th time these teams have faced off, adding to the oldest rivalry in USL League One’s history.

Tormenta FC takes on Greenville Triumph SC for a shot at three more points in the league standings and for a chance to claim the first win in this season’s Peach States Derby.
