South Georgia Tormenta FC is on the road again for the next four matches in USL League One play. The first stop for the Ibis is Naples, Florida, for a rematch against league newcomers FC Naples on Wednesday, August 6, at 8:00 p.m. at Paradise Coast Sports Complex.
The last encounter with FC Naples ended in a 2-1 victory for the South Georgia squad. The result was brought about by forward Jonathan Nyandjo’s shot that was deflected into the net by former Tormenta defender Jake Dengler, followed by a precise shot into the goal by forward Niall Reid-Stephen off a corner.
Tormenta’s latest outing saw them go level with Greenville Triumph SC, with goalkeeper Austin Pack equalizing for the 2-2 result in the dying minutes of the match. Pack and defender Makel Rasheed both scored their first professional goals against South Georgia’s rivals through headers into the net. Rasheed earned a spot on the USL League One Team of the Week through his efforts against the South Carolina side. Notably, Pack became the second goalkeeper in league history to score a goal after his last-minute equalizer that sent Greenville home with two points less than they were hoping for.
FC Naples has gone up against USL Championship side Tampa Bay Rowdies and various League One opponents since their last encounter with the Ibis. Their last three results have seen them win, lose and draw against Richmond Kickers, Greenville Triumph and AV Alta, respectively. Their most prominent asset in the attack appears to be Karsen Henderlong. He currently ranks second in the league for most goals scored, having scored eight goals in league play so far. The Tormenta backline must work to neutralize the Naples attack in the upcoming game.
Wednesday’s match will be nationally broadcast on CBS on Wednesday, August 6, at 8:00 p.m. The squad returns home at the end of the month for a league rematch against Forward Madison FC on Saturday, August 30, at 7:30 p.m. Make sure to mark your calendars and get tickets now.
