Rasheed, Bazini score in 2-1 away victory
South Georgia Tormenta FC snatched a Peach States Derby win with a 2-1 victory over Greenville Triumph SC on Saturday at Paladin Stadium. Defender Makel Rasheed and forward Yaniv Bazini scored tonight’s goals to secure the victory over South Georgia’s rivals.
The first half started at a steady pace, with both teams moving into each other’s final third. Greenville created a few chances, but Tormenta’s defense stayed solid. In the 34th minute, defender Makel Rasheed made a crucial sliding block to stop Greenville from taking the lead.
Moments before the end of the first half, the home side gave up a free kick in a dangerous spot. With midfielder Mason Tunbridge’s cross into the box, Rasheed’s head found the ball and put Ibis up by one.
The second half nearly started the same way the first ended, when a corner gave Tormenta another chance to score from Rasheed’s header. However, Greenville defender Brandon Fricke headed it out of play to stop South Georgia’s threat.
In the 74th minute, forward Niall Reid-Stephen brought the ball down the field and squared it to Bazini, who doubled Tormenta’s lead with a clinical shot to the top of the net.
The Greenville squad raised its hopes when defender Connor Evans managed to dribble far enough up the field to take a shot towards the right side of the net and score in the 81st minute. To their dismay, it was too late as Tormenta’s defensive tenacity was more than enough to halt their efforts, running out the clock and securing the win.
The result marked Tormenta’s fourth victory under Interim Coach Mark McKeever, leaving the club just one point shy of a playoff spot.
Tormenta FC continues the away stretch with a match against AV Alta at Lancaster Municipal Stadium on Saturday, September 20.
