STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has announced the return of Elis Nemtsov to its 2023 USL W League roster, pending league and federation approval. Nemtsov played a crucial part in bringing Statesboro its first two women’s soccer championships, the USL W League and a Sun Belt Regular Season conference title. Now, in 2023, Nemtsov is ready to bring the winning experience earned in 2022 to guide South Georgia to its second USL W League title.
“Elis showed her versatility up front all last season. She can create the game as an attacking midfielder, can supply quality service as a wide player, and can score goals centrally or as a winger. She is always a dangerous player in the attacking third, and we are excited to have her return to Tormenta FC again this summer. Her leadership and experience will be critically important in our quest to win back-to-back USL W League national championships.”
Jim Robbins, Tormenta FC USL W League Head Coach
With thirteen games played for South Georgia in the summer, Nemtsov proved to be a strong asset to the offensive line by contributing with four goals and one assist. Nemtsov now has the opportunity to prove herself as the goalscorer of the team in 2023. Nemtsov’s versatility allows her to play anywhere up front, from an attacking midfielder to a winger.
Nemtsov is only one of two players (Isabel Kopp being the other) to win the USL W League title and make a run to win the Sun Belt Regular Season Conference Championship with Georgia Southern University. Nemtsov scored the game-winning goal in the 86th minute of the final game of the regular season to secure Georgia Southern’s first regular season conference championship in program history, as the Eagles captured the title with a 1-0 victory over Georgia State.
Nemtsov was Georgia Southern’s top goal scorer with seven goals in the fall season, playing 985 minutes and helping the Eagles finish the regular season with six consecutive wins. Nemtsov has previously trained with the Israel Women’s National Team and was called up to represent the U17 and U19 Israeli national teams.
In June of 2021, Tormenta FC was named a founding member of the USL W League, an elite pre-professional pathway for women looking to build their careers both on and off the pitch. Tormenta FC won its first-ever USL W League title in 2022 after defeating the Minnesota Aurora in front of 6,500 fans in Eagan, Minnesota.
