STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC announced the addition of Blair Currie to its 2023 USL W League roster, pending league and federation approval. The New Zealand native joins Tormenta FC after a 2022 NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship with Spring Arbor University. Currie was a member of the history-making New Zealand Under-17 women’s team, which placed third at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay in 2018.
“Blair brings NAIA National Championship and New Zealand Youth National Team experience to our Tormenta FC goalkeeper group in 2023. She is another great shot stopper who can make all the saves needed for success at the USL W level. She is confident with the ball at her feet and great in the possession phase. She can play from the back and help build the game or play long using a variety of throws, punts, and dropkicks, if needed. Her experience and background will be valuable additions to our strong GK group this summer.”
Jim Robbins, Tormenta FC Head Coach
In her first year with Spring Arbor, Currie played a pivotal part in winning the program’s third NAIA National Championship. Currie’s 2022 season saw her play a total of 20 games, totaling 1,432. Currie only conceded three goals across all competitions. Currie’s accolades saw her feature in the 2022 United Soccer Coaches NAIA Women’s All-American Second Team.
“I’m super excited to be a part of Tormenta FC for the upcoming season. The club has a very professional environment and you can really tell they fully invest in women’s football, their players and their fans. I’m looking forward to taking the next step in my football journey with Tormenta FC.”

Prior to Spring Arbor, Currie spent the 2019 season with Seton Hall University, where Currie featured in three games recording nine saves throughout her time with the institution.
In June of 2021, Tormenta FC was named a founding member of the USL W League, an elite pre-professional pathway for women looking to build their careers both on and off the pitch. Tormenta FC won its first-ever USL W League title in 2022 after defeating the Minnesota Aurora in front of 6,500 fans in Eagan, Minnesota.
Tormenta FC provides an opportunity for local and national players to develop and start their professional careers in Statesboro, Georgia. In just one year, Tormenta FC’s USL W League team has produced five professional players with Jenae Packard joining Emily Burke, Kelly Giddes, Abigail Wolf and Jodi Medina as the latest players to sign a contract in Europe.
