STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC defender Nick Akoto was voted the South Georgia Tormenta FC Player of the Month (USL League One) for May. Akoto featured once in the USL League One Team of the Week during the month. Akoto scored his first professional goal on May 27 in Tormenta FC’s 1-1 draw against the Richmond Kickers.
The winner was determined via a weighted average from the following three voting bodies:
- A fan vote comprised 60 percent of the poll.
- The Tormenta FC staff ballots comprised 20 percent of the poll.
- Media ballots comprised 20 percent of the poll.

Akoto earned 41% of the total vote, with midfielder Tobias Otieno coming in second with 33.3%. Midfielders Jackson Khoury and forward Arthur Bosua followed at 19.8% and 6%, respectively.
In the month of May, Akoto has started in every single game, showcasing a strong defensive and offensive presence. Akoto leads South Georgia in tackles (26), duels won (73) and aerial duels won with 22.
Following Saturday’s match, Tormenta FC receives the visit of Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC, which will visit Tormenta Stadium for the second time this season on Saturday, June 17, at 7:30 p.m. ET from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium.
