STATESBORO, Ga. – With 34 individuals receiving the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine at South Georgia Tormenta FC’s home opener clinic at Eagle Field in Erk Russell Park on April 17, the club has announced a second vaccine clinic for its home match on Saturday, May 1, versus FC Tucson. The clinic is open for walk-ups with a ticket, starting when the gates open at 6 p.m. ET and running through the end of halftime.

With the help of Forest Heights Pharmacy in Statesboro, Georgia, the entire Tormenta FC first team and technical staff is now fully vaccinated and becomes one of the first professional soccer teams across the nation to be fully vaccinated. The club looks to ensure that the COVID-19 vaccine is widely accessible for the surrounding communities. Tormenta FC and Forest Heights Pharmacy hope to continue vaccination clinics at home games as long as demand lasts.

Additionally, all fans who show their vaccination card at the ticket gate on game day will receive a special discount of $5 off a General Admission ticket or VIP ticket.

“After the success of our first vaccine clinic, we are thrilled to once again partner with Tormenta FC and offer the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine to anyone over 18 in attendance,” Forest Heights Pharmacy Owner and Pharmacist Ben Ross said. “I want to once again thank the Tormenta FC organization for offering this to our community which allows people to get vaccinated in an environment they are comfortable in.”

Forest Heights Pharmacy will administer the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine inside the gates on the north end of the stadium and will schedule a follow-up appointment for the second shot. WJCL affiliate station MeTV is set to air Tormenta FC’s 2021 home opener on April 17 at 7 p.m. ET versus Fort Lauderdale CF, with hopes to broadcast more matches this season.

The home opener will be the first live broadcast of a Tormenta FC match on a linear network channel. Fans and followers in the Statesboro or Savannah market, can watch the match on the following stations:

“We are pleased to welcome back the YMCA as the official training gym of Tormenta FC,” Todd Bergstrom, Tormenta FC Director of Sales & Service, said. “Dorsey Baldwin and her staff do a great job at helping make sure their facilities are safe for our players to work out in during the week. This partnership is going to take a big step this season with the special promotions we will be running for their members and different activities we have planned to do with them this season.”

STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has teamed up with Georgia Southern University Men’s Soccer team to raise money for Rebecca’s Cafe, an organization that provides meals for those in need and strives to alleviate hunger in the Statesboro community. The two local football sides will battle at 4 p.m. EST in Erk Russell Park on March 27 with all of the proceeds being donated to Rebecca’s Cafe.

“Rebecca’s Cafe is an integral part of our community, not only in physically feeding those in need but also giving them a sense of worth and respect,” TFC Co-Owner Netra Van Tassell said. “Our players and our club have volunteered and supported Rebecca’s Cafe for many years, and we love being able to support and be a part of such a meaningful group.  

“Unfortunately, the pandemic shut the Cafe’s doors for almost an entire year, and not only were we not able to volunteer, but those in our community were unable to be fed through this organization. But we are so happy that they have reopened and that they will be serving our community again in a safe fashion. We hope the donations from our preseason match will help them in some way to be able to get back up and running smoothly.”

Located in the former Julia P. Bryant elementary school building on Donnie Simmons Way, Rebecca’s Café is a collaborative effort of several local churches and organizations to serve lunch to residents in need of a hot meal, sometimes serving over 100 people per week.

Tormenta FC holds an all-time 2-0-0 record against Georgia Southern and this year’s home match against the Eagles is included in the 2021 season ticket packages, while non-season ticket members can purchase general admission tickets for $5 and students will be able to attend for $1 (student tickets can be purchased at the gate with valid identification). 

Tormenta FC first kicks off its preseason lineup this Saturday, March 13, in a closed-door friendly against Atlanta United FC. The club will also face the Tampa Bay Rowdies and Charlotte Independence from the USL Championship.

The 2021 USL League One season is set to kick off by May 8 and will feature a 28-game slate running through October and culminating in a six-team playoff to take place in November.
