STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC earned a key win in the 2023 USL League One regular season, triumphing 2-1 over Central Valley Fuego FC from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Tormenta FC took the lead early, as Matheus Cassini scored the fastest goal in the League One team’s history, netting a powerful header 70 seconds from the opening whistle.

Things only got worse for Fuego FC on the night, as goalkeeper Mitchell North earned a straight red card for handling the ball outside of the penalty area in the 16th minute of the match.
TFC added on a second goal in the 51st minute via a left-footed finish by Jackson Khoury. Davey Mason, who sent in the cross that led to the first goal of the night, provided the clinical assist to Khoury as well.
Despite being down a man and down 0-2, Central Valley did not give up easily and scored a penalty in the 83rd minute. However, the visiting team was unable to find an equalizer late, and TFC earned its third home of season.
Following Wednesday’s result, Tormenta FC now shifts its attention to a road matchup against the Charlotte Independence on Saturday, Aug. 12, at 7:30 p.m. ET from American Legion Memorial Stadium (ESPN+).
