STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC earned an important win in the 2023 USL League One regular season, taking down Forward Madison FC 4-2 from Optim Sports Medicine Field at Tormenta Stadium in Statesboro, Georgia. Two goals from Kazaiah Sterling and one from Mukwelle Akale helped propel Tormenta FC and hand the team its second consecutive home victory.
Madison took the lead early via a Christian Chaney goal in the 12th minute, but Tormenta FC responded quickly. In the 18th minute, Jackson Khoury skillfully beat a defender on the left wing before driving into the penalty area and firing a low cross in front of the goal. Mitchell Osmond, a defender for Madison, accidentally redirected the ball into the back of the net, leveling the score.
However, Madison retook the lead in the 26th minute via a Jayden Onen goal and held onto the advantage into the halftime break.
Head Coach Ian Cameron rallied his men, and Tormenta FC came out swinging in the second half. Pedro Fonseca earned a penalty kick soon after the second half kickoff, and Sterling converted the opportunity to level the score once again. Sterling then scored his second of the night six minutes later via a great pass by Akale. Finally, Fonseca combined with Akale, who smoothly chipped the goalkeeper for the team’s fourth goal of the night.
