STATESBORO, Ga. — South Georgia Tormenta FC announced today changes to the club’s USL League One coaching staff. Tom Morris, who has been serving as the Associate Head Coach and first joined the club in 2019 as a USL League Two assistant coach, departs the club for Major League Soccer’s Charlotte FC. Simultaneously, the organization is excited to introduce Jordan Melia, who has been serving as a League One assistant coach and was also the club’s USL Academy Head Coach, as the newly appointed first assistant coach for the remainder of the 2023 season, effective immediately.
In addition, Drew DeJohn and Jay Peake of Tormenta FC Academy will assume all of the USL Academy coaching responsibilities for the remainder of the 2023 season, where Tormenta FC currently sits at the top of the table with a 6-2-1 (W-L-D) record and has three matches remaining.
“Tom and I started our journey at Tormenta FC together in 2019, and from that date have made every strategic decision together,” Tormenta FC Head Coach Ian Cameron said. “It comes as no surprise that an organization like Charlotte FC perceives Tom as an asset that can add great value, much like he has here. Tormenta FC, for their part, continue to demonstrate the ability to give young players, coaches and front office staff a platform to showcase their abilities and create a professional pathway. We’re excited to now see coaches like Jordan step into an elevated role within USL League One and take us even further forward on and off the field.”

During Morris’ tenure, the League One team has achieved remarkable milestones and demonstrated exceptional teamwork and sportsmanship under his guidance. His contributions have played an integral role in the development of numerous professional talents now playing across North America and in Tormenta FC’s championship season in 2022. His departure is met with both gratitude and well-wishes for his future endeavors.
Melia, meanwhile, also played a crucial part in the team’s defensive success in 2022. As the recent Head Coach of Tormenta FC’s successful USL Academy team, he brings a wealth of experience, expertise and understanding of the entire club ecosystem to the coaching staff of the League One side.
